Education Leadership - Communicating your Mission

When giving attack orders as a military leader, I was taught to always repeat the Mission. The mission was a short punchy statement delivered twice to both inspire and unite the Marines in my section. The intention was to create 100% clarity about what was to be achieved. There, could be no 'grey (vague) areas'.
In my Coaching work with senior education leaders I regularly work with their needs to create those same pillars of team alignment. Their need to inspire and unite their teams, whilst achieving 100% clarity of the mission.
The military approach ensured that I was well practiced in the requirement of thorough and detailed preparation. Not just preparing in terms of information gathering or physical readiness but, more importantly, preparation of my communication. The term 'lost in communication' had no place when giving orders within a military setting and I see the same necessity within the education setting today.
Senior education leaders require no less commitment, focus and collaborative teamwork to achieve their many weekly missions. Educational settings consistently present challenges and successful communication is the cornerstone for achieving team understanding, aligned action and successful outcomes.
Is this shared observation 'one to consider' as you start your week or, is there a need for you to take action? If your need is action - please don't hesitate to reach-out to me, your mission will quickly become our mission.
